i have formulated a bouldering specific training plan for myself based on the anderson bros “rock prodigy” program, paired with the solid advice i’ve found on this sub. i usually have the time to dedicate 2 hrs a day to the gym. -in your experience is antagonist on off days a good or bad idea? i know that a lot of these questions merit a “listen to your body” response but you personal experience would be a big help. you’re doing work for minimum 5 days straight, maybe even just every day or the week and then straight into the next week. i think drop hammer curls and dumbbell lateral lifts, you only need one thing for chest and shoulders respectively. i forgot to specify that i will not be climbing two days in a row on the weekends.
i’m climbing about the same as you, and while i’m no expert at all, one thing that’s really been helping me lately with antagonist forearm stuff is getting a rice bucket. current one doesn’t have one though… might be time to invest in a home rice bucket -definitely too many antagonist exercises. i honestly think once a week is probably enough since you have it programmed consistently throughout your training cycle. also, since you already did a year of a hangboard program my guess is finger strength isn’t a weakness for you for the climbing level you are at. even if you are a world class athlete, doing that for 12 weeks is going to destroy your body, and not in a good way. i think it is alright to explore it, and i don’t necessarily think the amount you have scheduled is too much, but it can be a dangerous tool if used too much or improperly. i am no expert, but i started planning my training like this a few years ago and ran into a lot of the advice i gave you the hard way, so i hope you can find at least some of it useful.
