i had read about the concept of autoregulation before but simply had no idea how to use it effectively or how to implement it into a training program. generally i thought the chosen exercises covered my weaknesses well, especially given it was written for a generic intermediate trainee. i found this allowed for a way to judge progression over the course of the cycle, e.g. i’m not being an internet doctor, i’ll be seeing a professional about it in a couple of days but i expect that next cycle the best case is that i won’t be doing a lot of deadlifting and i will be doing a lot more rehab work in that area.

by the time i was done with the first block of higher frequency, i was fairly used to the 4 day a week. the use of rpe in the program took some getting used to but feels like a seriously useful tool for a coachless lifter. i remember reading about methods to autoregulate the length of mesocycles and things like that but i imagine those wouldn’t be as widely used in favour of more traditional planning methods. i was also sure to keep up with mobility work and stretching of the hips in general. the 4-6% fatigue levels generally only took me 1-2 sets to hit, however 6-9% took a lot longer and i really did notice the difference in overall fatigue levels.
